Sammons Scores Third While Pauch Jr. Wraps Up 2019 Title At New Egypt

New Egypt, NJ – Davey Sammons and Dakota Kessler led the 30-Lap Vahlco Wheels Modified feature to the green.

Sammons would jump out the early lead and led the first six laps when Johnny Guarino, Cale Ross and Wade Hendrickson tangled in turn three. Sammons would jump back out to the lead on the ensuing restart with Kessler in tow. The second caution of the event would fly on lap ten when Kevin Vaclavicek, Dominick Buffalino and Blaine Bracelin got together in turn four. Sammons would again take command of the field on the restart. Brandon Grosso would take over the runner-up spot from Kessler after starting 10th on lap 13. The only slight hiccup that Sammons would have would be on lap 15 when his right side sail panel came loose and folded over which would not phase him one bit as he continued to set a torrid pace. Billy Pauch Jr. who started 12th would now be in the third position as him and Grosso battled for second while they chased after Sammons. 2018 track champion David VanHorn had now raced up from his 13th starting spot while him and Mike Butler put on a crowd-pleasing duel running side by side for the fourth position lap after lap toward the end of the event. They would all be no match for Sammons and he would lead wire-to-wire scoring his third Vahlco Wheels Modified main event of 2019 at New Egypt Speedway. Brandon Grosso would come home second with Billy Pauch Jr. third, David VanHorn fourth, and Mike Butler completing the top five.

“Two weeks ago we changed something on the car and had a motor issue, we got everything back in time for last week and found out we had a bent valve. So, we found something and it took us two weeks to run it. I drove as hard as I could. The track was really fun, I’ve won races where I had to run the bottom and it’s nice to win one where you have to get up on the wheel. We fought for this and we’re just happy to be here”, said Sammons post race.

After clinching the 2019 Vahlco Wheels Modified title the week prior, Billy Pauch Jr. was officially crowned champion this week, for Pauch Jr. it is his second championship in three years and four straight seasons where he hasn’t finished worse than second in points.

“It was a tough and challenging year, we really got going there. We really wanted to win tonight but hats off to Davey (Sammons), Our guys are awesome, this means a lot, I grew up here as a kid, we’ve had a good couple of years here and we have a lot of fun”, Pauch Jr. said following the race.

Brian Spencer picked up his second straight Larry’s Hot Rods & Harley’s Northeast Wingless Sprint Car feature over Rich Mellor, Larry Drake, Duane Nixon and Heidi Hedin. With his second place finish Rich Mellor has clinched the 2019 Larry’s Hot Rods & Harley’s Northeast Wingless Sprint Car championship.

Robbie Holzwarth scored his second Crate Modified win of 2019 and the second of his career over Ryan Heim, Sammy Martz Jr., Matt Miller and Johnny Bangs. The point battle is closer than ever with Joe Toth leading Johnny Bangs by just two points and Ryan Simmons 10 out of the lead in third heading into next week's final points race. The Crate Modified results are currently unofficial.

Rob Longo won the 15-lap feature for the Mike’s Performance Center 4-Cylinders over point leader Mike Fox, Joe Garey Sr., Dom Antonelli and Scott Dunn.

New Egypt Speedway is back in action next Saturday night when Hammer Electric presents Championship Night along with ¼ Midget Night. Track champions in the Larry’s Hot Rods & Harley’s Northeast Wingless Sprint Cars, Hammer Sportsman, Crate Modifieds, Street Stocks and the Mike’s Performance Center 4-Cylinders will all be crowned. Danny Bouc Breaks Drought at New Egypt Speedway Will Dupree Captures John Romano Memorial Sportsman 30

(Aug. 24, 2019):  Danny Bouc of Plumsteadville, PA broke his win drought Saturday night by taking his first Vahlco Wheels Modified feature event of the season at New Egypt Speedway. Bouc took command on a lap 4 restart and never looked back as he posted his 11th career win at NES.

“It’s been a tough season and it is good to finally breakthrough,” exclaimed Bouc in victory lane, “I have a great crew and they changed a lot of things on this car and it was great tonight!”

Pat Wall took command at the start of the 30 lap affair over PJ Oliver, Kevin Vaclavicek and Bouc.  Wall was strong in the opening laps until the yellow came out on lap 4 for Jim Martin who got into the turn four fence.  The restart was the turning point of the event as Bouc used the cushion to charge around the outside into second in turns 1-2, then flew by leader Wall in thurn 3 & 4 to be recorded the leader of lap 5. Bouc immediately opened up a half straightaway lead and as the race now stayed green he continued to set a fast pace as PJ Oliver gave chase. Just after halfway Bouc hit lapped traffic but he didn’t let this slow him down as he masterfully sliced his way thru it maintaining his advantage. With 6 laps to go the caution appeared for only the second time as Vaclavicek slammed the first turn fence and came to a stop. Bouc didn’t let this phase him as he powered away on the restart, and all eyes turned to point leader Billy Pauch Jr. who had only advanced to 7th before the caution. The 2017 champion grabbed fifth on the restart and then split the next two cars in close quarters in turn three to claim third. A lap later he was second and began to close in on Bouc who was more than half-straightaway in front. At the checkered Pauch got within 6 car lengths and settled for hard earned second, clinching his second NES Modified title a week early.  Mike Butler turned in another solid performance for third, Oliver held on for fourth and Brandon Grosso fought back late to complete the top five.

Will Dupree of Somerset, NJ held off challenges from 5 different drivers to win his third event of 2019 in the John Romano Memorial 30 for the Hammer Sportsman. Three-time champ Bob Lineman Jr. led the early going and appeared poised to make the race a laugher as he ran away and hid, until his car broke at about the halfway point coasting to a stop. He was pushed into the pits ending his night.  Dupree inherited the lead and held off challenges from every top runner, sometimes 2 and three at once. But he was up to every challenge and went on to win a race very close to his heart, that honored his longtime friend and competitor John Romano Jr. Steve Davis took the point lead back by finishing second, John Criscione ran a smooth race coming home third, followed by Art Liedl and Ryan Heim.

The Crate Modifieds 20 lap feature was won by Johnny Bangs for the second time this season. Bangs took the led before halfway from early race leader Andy Walko and never looked back. Dan Fleming bounced back from the big wreck two weeks ago to finish second as Ryan Heim posted his second top five of the night in third. The other two drivers involved in that big crash two weeks ago, Jeremy Martino and Robby Dunn, also bounced back in a big way to round out the top five.

Billy Liedtka scored his sixth win and 32nd of his career in the 15 lap Street Stock victory. Liedtka held off a fast Brian Spencer for the popular victory. Todd Dige was third across the line coming back from an early race incident.

Next Saturday, Sept. 14th will be Flemington Car & Truck Country First Responders/Modified Championship Night. All first responders w/ID will receive FREE General admission & there will be a parade of Emergency response vehicles at Intermission.  Pit Gates open at 3pm, Grandstand Main gates will open at 4pm, Hot laps on track at 5pm, and Racing begins at 6pm.

Former Champs Pauch Jr. & VanHorn Split Twin 20’s at New Egypt Speedway

(Aug. 31, 2019):  2017 track champion Billy Pauch Jr. of , Frenchtown, NJ won his fifth Vahlco Wheels Modified feature event of the season in the first feature, and 2018 track champ David VanHorn of Harmony, NJ took his fourth win of the season in the nightcap at New Egypt Speedway on Saturday night. For Pauch Jr. it was career win number 26, tying him for 4th on the all-time Modified win list with Keith Hoffman and Frank Cozze.  VanHorn’s tenth career victory came in one of the most exciting feature events in track history, as he bested Mike Butler and Brandon Grosso in a torrid three car battle for the win.

In the first event, heat race winner TJ Lilly grabbed the initial lead ahead of PJ Oliver, Rich Rutski and Cale Ross. Lilly looked strong in the early going as Rutski took over the runner-up position. Rutski was persistent and finally wrestled the lead away from Lilly on lap 9, but this was short lived as PJ Oliver roared back to life and raced from 4th to the lead on a restart to lead at the halfway mark. Oliver began to stretch his lead as fifth starting Kevin Vaclavicek raced into second and 13th starting Billy Pauch Jr. was now third.  Pauch Jr. wasted no time as he quickly charged into second and reeled in the leader. Lap 13 saw Pauch Jr. grab the lead before the caution flew for a tangle between top five runners Danny Bouc and Vaclavicek. The restart saw Pauch Jr. pull away with ease as he cruised to his third Modified victory this week. Ryan Krachun drove from his 9th starting spot to finish a very solid second, besting David VanHorn, Brandon Grosso and Rutski, who completed the top five. In victory lane, Pauch Jr chose the child holding the inversion number 11, meaning that the top 11 finishers would be inverted for the start of the second Twin 20.

Billy Osmun and Danny Bouc made up the front row for the second feature with Bouc racing out to the lead. Bouc quickly opened up a lead with the rest of the pack virtually on his heels racing 2, 3, and twice 4 wide for the top 12 positions in a wild and crowd pleasing battle. With positions changing radically on each passing lap in the top ten Bouc continued to lead each lap. Finally on lap 9 ground swell behind Bouc caught up to the leader as Mike Butler and three other cars passed him on both sides. Two-time winner Butler now had the lead at the halfway sign, but the pressure was relentless from behind as VanHorn and Brandon Grosso raced side by side on his back bumper. The following lap this duo caught the cushion riding Butler and brought the crowd to their feet as they raced under Butler to make it three-wide for the lead. Unknown to the crowd, they would stay on their feet for the remaining last half of the race, as VanHorn & Grosso would not give each other an inch, racing side by side around the speedway lap after lap, and pulling up under Butler to make it 3-abreast in every corner of the speedway. On lap 16 VanHorn showed that his relentless pounding on the bottom groove was paying off as he finally got the bite he was looking for off turn 2 and nosed ahead into turn three. Just as DVH grabbed the lead he got into a little fluid on the bottom of turn four forcing the car to push up the speedway as if he was diving into the pits directly in front of the leaders. VanHorn made an incredible save on the far outside of the track as Butler shot by with Grosso in tow. VanHorn had not only saved it, but was right on the back bumper of the leader down the frontstretch and tried to swing back under Butler, however Grosso was right there as well with the two making hard contact but immediately recovering and both picking up the chase once again. In one lap it was back to the three-wide battle again and as the white flag flew VanHorn grabbed the lead on the low side of turn 4. The final lap saw Butler and Grosso battling for second as VanHorn went on to capture the exciting 20 lap event. Butler came home second, Grosso third, followed by Billy Pauch Jr. and Cale Ross.

Steve Davis of Jackson, NJ was victorious in the Hammer Sportsman 20 lap feature event. Early race leader and new point leader Jim Housworth came home second.  John Criscione, David Burns and last week’s winner Ryan Heim rounded out the top five.

Billy Pauch Jr. is “the Man” on Ladies Night at New Egypt

(Aug. 24, 2019):  Billy Pauch Jr. of , Frenchtown, NJ won his fourth Vahlco Wheels Modified feature event of the season on Central Paint Ladies Night Saturday at New Egypt Speedway. The 2017 Modified champion & current point leader powered around race leader Cale Ross on lap 16 and went on to his first win at NES since June 26th.

“We finally got one!” quipped a visibly relieved Pauch Jr. in victory lane, “We had a very good car tonight. These past two weeks are probably the toughest I have ever had racing and I was really down on myself, but we pushed thru and I am really proud of this whole team. This was a much needed win”

Cale Ross, who ran away and hid in his heat race victory, looked to repeat that performance at the start of the 30 lap feature event. Ross with Blaine Bracelin in tow pulled away from the rest of the field when the yellow was quickly displayed with two laps in the books when Kevin Vaclavicek spun in turn 3 and Tuesday night’s winner David Van Horn slammed into him.  Despite the heavy contact, both cars were able to rejoin at the back of the pack for the restart which saw Pauch Jr. already up to 6th from his 10th starting slot. Ross again dominated the restart as Bracelin gave chase and Pauch Jr. battled with hard charger Danny Bouc as the duo sliced thru the pack. Pauch Jr. won this battle and quickly caught and passed Bracelin for second on lap 7 and then set his sights on Ross, who was 10 car lengths out in front. Pauch began to pound the outside of the race track as he tracked down and was the bumper of the leader by lap 12. Pauch appeared ready to fly by the leader, however Ross had found grip on the very bottom groove of the track and would power back past the point leader on every turn. Ross thwarted Pauch’s attempts to pass at every turn for 4 consecutive laps, until lap 16 when Pauch drove the car in deep into turn 3 and powered around the leader in turn 4. Ross moved up to the outside and kept up the torrid pace just five lengths back over the remaining distance. Some brief hope came in the form of lapped traffic in the final 5 laps, but Pauch Jr. handled it like the champion he is and went on to his 25th career Modified win at New Egypt Speedway. Modified rookie Ross continued to impress with yet another strong run for second. Bracelin posted his best finish ever at NES in third. David VanHorn rallied back from that lap 2 tangle to finish 4th and Davey Sammons rounded out the top five.

Ryan Heim of Parkertown, NJ won his first career feature in the Hammer Sportsman 20 lap event. Heim took command on lap 4 and led the remaining distance holding off a late race charge by Jim Housworth and Steve Davis, who finished second and third respectively.  JT Trstensky and Art Liedl rounded out the top five.

The Crate Modifieds also saw a first time winner in victory lane, for the seventh time this season, as Kevin Borden Jr. outpaced rookie Nick Van Wickle over the 20 lap distance. Veteran racer Steve Hicks came home third, followed by point leader Ryan Simmons fourth and Howie Finch in fifth.

Billy Liedtka scored his fifth win and 31st of his career in the 15 lap Street Stock victory. Liedtka held off Mick Search & Brian Spencer for the popular victory.

The Central Paint Ladies night Powder Puff race winners were Daralynne McCaughey (Sportsman) & Ashley Wroble (Street Stocks).

Next week Sat. night August 31st, it is New Egypt Speedway’s annual Labor Day weekend double dip, with Twin 20 lap features for the Vahlco Wheels Modifieds. Also on the card will be the Larry’s Hot Rods & Harleys NEWS Sprint Cars, the Hammer Sportsman and the Mike’s Performance Center 4-cylinders.  Gates will open at 5pm, with warm-ups at 6pm and the first race starting at 7pm.

BUTLER REGISTERS HIS SECOND VAHLCO WHEELS MODIFIED FEATURE WIN OF THE YEAR

New Egypt, NJ (August 11, 2019) – On Toms River Night at New Egypt Speedway, Mike Butler registered his second Vahlco Wheels Modified feature win of the year. The Delaware Auto Exchange Mid-Atlantic Sprint Series main event went to Tim Tanner Jr. John Criscione was the victor in the Hammer Sportsman feature. Brian Spencer topped the field in the Street Stock race.

butler

As the 30-lap feature began for the Vahlco Wheels Modifieds, Billy Osmun grabbed the lead with Cale Ross, Pat Wall, Rich Rutski and Blaine Bracelin next in line. By the third circuit and just before the first yellow flag waved for a multi-car tangle, Wall passed Ross for second with eighth place starting Mike Butler advancing into fifth. On the ensuing restart, Osmun maintained his edge with Butler motoring to the runner-up spot. Following another caution period on the fourth tour, Butler bolted to the front as action resumed with Wall in second and Osmun in third. Just as action was beginning to heat up on the fifth lap, Dakota Kessler’s ride came to a stop near the pit entrance and the yellow lights illuminated for the final time. When green flag racing returned, Butler fended off Wall to keep the lead with Osmun running in third. At the halfway point of the contest, Butler was increasing his margin over Wall and Osmun with Ryan Krachun in fourth and Danny Bouc in fifth. On lap sixteen, Bouc slipped by Krachun to move into fourth. With ten circuits left, the top two of Butler and Wall had pulled away from their rivals with Butler having a comfortable advantage. Over the final moments of the contest, Butler went unchallenged as he scored his second career Vahlco Wheels Modified feature win. Wall’s strong run netted him second place. With Osmun finishing third, Bouc came home in fourth after starting eleventh. Fifth place was claimed by Krachun. The winners in the Vahlco Wheels Modified heat races were Blaine Bracelin and Cale Ross.

Grosso Gets Job Done At New Egypt; Simmons Mr. Crate Modified 2019

New Egypt, NJ – Belle Mead, NJ’s Brandon Grosso picked up his first New Egypt Speedway victory of 2019 on Saturday night during Jeep Night 2. Ryan Simmons was crowned Mr. Crate Modified for 2019 by winning the Mr. Crate Classic while Rich Mellor picked up his sixth Larry’s Hot Rods & Harley’s Northeast Wingless Sprint Car feature with Dominick Antonelli scoring his first career Mike’s Performance Center 4-Cylinder feature.

Doug Miller 8 3 2019 78

Blaine Bracelin jumped out to the early lead and would lead the first five laps of the Modified feature with Danny Bouc in tow after getting to the second position on lap two with Brandon Grosso following him up through the field. Grosso would wrestle the lead away from Bracelin on a lap five restart with Bouc now in second followed closely by Billy Pauch Jr. and last week’s winner David Van Horn. Pauch Jr. would move in to the runner-up spot on lap six and began to chase down Grosso. Pauch Jr. would officially lead lap nine by a bumper over Grosso with an outside pass but a yellow would fall negating the pass before the field was past the stripe handing the lead back to Grosso. On the ensuing restart Grosso would take the outside lane and pulled away to a five-car length lead over Pauch Jr. The field would encounter lapped traffic at the halfway mark, as Brandon Grosso’s lead would fluctuate as they diced through the back of the field. Finally with just three laps to go Pauch Jr. would shrink the lead to just a couple car lengths closing even more with two to go, but it would be to no avail as Brandon Grosso would take the win by just two car lengths over Pauch Jr. David VanHorn would come home third with Danny Bouc and Davey Sammons rounding out the top five.

David VanHorn Blitzes the Field on Youth Football Night at NES

(July 27, 2019):  David VanHorn of Ringoes, NJ won his second Vahlco Wheels Modified feature event of the season on Eastern Auto Parts Warehouse Youth Football Night Saturday at New Egypt Speedway. The 2018 Modified champion, DVH charged to the front quickly and never looked back as he recorded his 8th career victory in the 30 lap non stop event, which was completed in just 9 minutes and 14 seconds.

“I have to thank the guys up at DKM Fabrication, This car was on rails tonight!”, stated an elated VanHorn in victory lane, “I also want to thank my Dad for all of his help and Fred Vahlsing for giving me the opportunity to drive this car and all of his support”

batch DSC9840

JR Fulper and Pat Wall brought the field to the green flag with Fulper taking command. This was short lived as Wall drove under Fulper on lap 3 to take over the lead. Wall had his #5w glued to the inside guardrail as he tried to open up a little breathing room on the field. Danny Bouc, who started in fifth, was on the move racing into second on lap 5. Meanwhile VanHorn was charging thru the field using the top groove and was suddenly in third closing in on the leaders.  Before Bouc could mount a serious challenge on Wall for the lead, DVH flew by on the outside sweeping to the front. Bouc quickly switched to the outside and followed VanHorn by Wall and into second. Bouc set his sights on reeling in VanHorn, however this was not to be as VanHorn’s #323 drove off into the night, while Bouc did everything he could to keep pace. With just 10 laps remaining lapped traffic came into play, but DVH handled it masterfully and cruised to the victory. Bouc settled for a solid and well-earned second place finish. Point leader Billy Pauch Jr. marched thru the field from his 13th starting position to come home third, Pat Wall used the inside groove to perfection finishing fourth and Mike Butler, who fell back in the pack early, came on strong late to finish in the top five.

JERSEY RUSH VIII CANCELED AT NEW EGYPT SPEEDWAY TUESDAY, JULY 16, LOW CAR COUNT CITED

NEW EGYPT, NJ  July 15, 2019   - After careful consideration and acknowledgment of likely low competitor participation, JERSEY RUSH event promoters Bob Miller,  Len Sammons, Danny Sammons and Davey Sammons have been forced to cancel the event at New Egypt Speedway which had been planned for tomorrow night, Tuesday, July 16th.   We always want to present the highest quality show and a great amount of effort went into the planning with over sixty sprint car team contacted.    This is very disappointing for all involved, including competitors from all divisions who committed to race.

The promoters cited a shortage of anticipated entries of the 410 Sprint Cars as the reason for the postponement. Two prominent JERSEY RUSH Sprint racers who annually compete at the event, former winner Ryan Smith and recent PA Speedweek champion Lucas Wolfe are both sidelined with injuries suffered recently.

Smith, who has not raced since suffering a concussion at Selinsgrove Speedway on June 30th, has yet to be cleared by doctors to return to competition.  Wolfe suffered back injuries this past Sunday, July 14 in the All Star Sprint Series race at Lebanon Valley Speedway.

Despite engine problems and crashes that had set back numerous other 410 Sprint teams in recent weeks, the promoters felt they had organized a strong enough field of entries for fans to enjoy the show until this past weekend problems forced other teams to cancel.  Similar problems on the Modified side were also reported after a tough weekend for both divisions.

“None of us, me, Len Sammons or his sons Danny and Davey would be comfortable putting on a show with such a short field of cars,” said Bob Miller.

“We recognize the inconvenience a late cancelation may cause for those race teams that were planning to be at JERSEY RUSH and for fans who look forward to the event. But we would rather be up front about what was likely to occur and cancel than trying to put on a show that would not be up to the standard we believe race fans deserve.”

Due to the busy schedule, we will not look for an alternate date in 2019.

We thank the drivers of all divisions who did commit to the show as well as the outpour of interest in the event from race fans.

Sammons Links Up Win Number Two On Premio Foods Night At New Egypt Speedway

New Egypt, NJ – Bordentown, NJ’s Davey Sammons picked up his second career and second Vahlco Wheels Modified feature event win of the season at the New Egypt Speedway on Saturday night on Upper Freehold/Hamilton Township night presented by Premio Foods. Also earning victories on Saturday night were Ricky DiEva in the Mid Atlantic 305 Sprint Cars, Matt Miller in the Crate Modifieds and Bill Liedtka in the Street Stocks.

Milford, NJ’s JR Fulper led the Vahlco Wheels Modified feature event to the green flag with Davey Sammons in tow. After some yellow flag fever to start the Modified feature, Fulper would set a torrid pace and appeared to be on his way to his first career Modified win until lap 16 when Fulper entering turn three would tangle with a lapped car ending his night. Fulper’s mishap would then hand the lead to Davey Sammons who would go on to win his second career and second Modified win of 2019 at NES. Following a lap two tangle that sent him pit side with a flat tire Billy Pauch Jr. rallied to finish second, further extending his point lead. Brandon Grosso, Rich Rutski and Ryan Krachun would round out the top five. Sammons would dedicate his win to long time supporter John Chemedlin who recently passed away.

“This one is for John, I thought about that with two laps to go, I had a tear running down my eye”, said Sammons post race. “It’s a shame, JR was running a good race, I thought I would be able to get to the lead on the top early but I couldn’t get off of two so I just fell in line and rode behind him for a little bit. I got a little tight early and I thought he would come back to me but he wasn’t. I thought I would get a shot at him in lapped traffic and it’s unfortunate what happened to him but we had a good car.”

It was a pair of young guns dueling in Crate Modified action between Matt Miller and Anthony Tramontana Jr. Miller would control the distance over Tramontana until Tramontana had a driveline issue under caution. Miller would then hold off a hard charging Joe Toth to pick up his first career Crate Modified victory. Toth would take over the point lead with his runner-up finish. Miller’s best career finish prior to this Saturday was a 12th. Steve Davis, Ryan Simmons and Johnny Bangs completed the top five.

Mid Atlantic 305 Sprint Car Rookie Ricky DiEva led wire-to-wire in the 20 lap main event picking up his first career Sprint Car win. Mark Bitner was a man on a mission trying to catch DiEva in the late stages of the event but it would be to no avail. Bitner, Jeff Geiges, Tim Tanner Jr. and Eddie Wagner rounded out the top five.

Bill Liedtka just keeps adding to his all time leading Street Stock win total, picking up the win on Saturday night over a fast Brian Spencer, Jimmy Avery, Joe Reid and Billy Wroble.

Six AMA Flat Track Motorcycles took part in three exhibitions throughout the evening in anticipation of next Sunday’s AMA Garden State Flat Track Classic.

New Egypt Speedway is back in action this Tuesday night with the Jersey Rush VIII featuring the 410 Sprint Cars, Modifieds and Crate’s.
