PAPIEZ PILOTS HIS MODIFIED TO VICTORY LANE AT NEW EGYPT SPEEDWAY

New Egypt, NJ (May 12, 2019) –  At New Egypt Speedway’s Bordentown/Chesterfield Night, Brian Papiez piloted his ride into victory lane as he won the Vahlco Wheels Modified feature. JT Trstensky was declared the winner in the Hammer Sportsman race. The Larry's Hot Rods & Harley's Northeast Wingless Sprint Cars main event was claimed by Rich Mellor. Jon Meyer won the Street Stock contest while DJ Hunt took top honors in the Lyons Construction/Metal Fab Rookie Sportsman race.

As the 30-lap Vahlco Wheel Modified feature began, outside polesitter Brian Papiez sprinted out to the front. After a quartet of caution periods and six tours recorded, Papiez was still on top with TJ Lilly, fourteenth place starter Billy Pauch Jr. and PJ Oliver next in line. By lap ten, Papiez had built a solid advantage over Lilly and Pauch Jr. with Danny Bouc advancing into fourth and Oliver falling back into fifth. At the halfway point, Papiez’s margin was nearly a full-straightaway over Lilly, Pauch Jr., Bouc and David VanHorn. With seven circuits remaining, Papiez was beginning to approach the tail end of the field with Lilly and Pauch Jr. dueling for second. On lap twenty-six, Pauch Jr. swung by Lilly to gain second place. Over the final revolutions, Papiez continued his torrid pace to grab his second win of the season. Pauch Jr. captured the runner-up position. Bouc and VanHorn were able to pass Lilly as well in the closing laps to finish third and fourth respectively. Lilly finished in fifth. Davey Sammons Hits Career First on Little League Night at New Egypt Speedway

(May 4, 2019):  Davey Sammons of Bordentown, NJ captured his first Modified feature event of his career Saturday night at New Egypt Speedway. Sammons won his heat race and then led all 30 laps of the main event in front of car owner John Chemidlin who was in attendance despite still recovering from a neck injury.

0N2A9959

“I am very happy to be able to do this in front of John (Chemidlin)’, stated an elated Sammons, “We have had a strong car this year but haven’t been able to put it all together until tonight!”

Sammons and John Packenham brought the 22-car field to the green flag with Sammons quickly leading the way with Bryan Kuhl immediately getting the runner-up spot and giving chase.  These two drivers set the pace in the opening laps with Kuhl edging closer just before halfway while Brandon Grosso charged to the front from his 11th starting position. Grosso and 14th starter Billy Pauch Jr. were 4th and 5th and putting the pressure on third place Rich Rutski. As the second half of the race unfolded Sammons used his 410 sprint car experience to increase his advantage while lapping several cars.  As Sammons approached heavy lapped traffic at the back of the field, the first yellow of the event for a three car tangle just ahead of the leader slowed the pace with just 6 laps remaining in the 30 lap affair. After running 1 lap and seeing a second caution appear, the field was set for what would be the final restart, now single file as only 5 laps remained. The final 5 laps saw Sammons remain in control as his very strong #747 was just too much for the rest of the field.  Grosso, who had dropped back to fifth for the last restart, decided to try the far outside of the speedway over the final 5 laps and it paid off as he raced to a second place finish. Kuhl held on for a solid third, as Pauch Jr. and Rutski rounded out the top five.

After the original start of the first 20-lap feature for the Vahlco Wheels Modifieds was scrubbed due to a caution, Blaine Bracelin took the lead on the ensuing green flag with Pat Wall and JR Fulper next in line. Tenth place starter Ryan Krachun was quickly on the move and motored into fourth on the second revolution. The caution lights were illuminated on the fourth circuit. When action resumed, Krachun drove from fourth into first with Bracelin in second and Fulper in third. Pat Wall scooted past Fulper for third on lap six. Leading the field, Krachun began to pull away as the remainder of the top five spots began to shuffle. At the halfway point, Krachun had a comfortable edge over Wall, thirteenth place starter Billy Pauch Jr., eighteenth place starter David VanHorn and twelfth place starter Danny Bouc. With Krachun continuing to set a fast pace, VanHorn was persistent in moving forward and advanced into second with only six tours left. One lap later, Krachun began to encounter slower traffic. Throughout the final five circuits, Krachun’s large advantage decreased but he went unchallenged to record his fourth career win. With VanHorn taking second, Pauch Jr. finished third. Fourth went to Wall and fifth was taken by Bouc.

With the top thirteen from the first Vahlco Wheels Modified feature inverted for the second 20-lap affair, outside pole sitter Ryan Godown darted to the front with Matt Stangle and Brandon Grosso in tow. On lap four, Billy Pauch Jr. brought out the first yellow flag of the race for a flat tire. On the resumption of racing, Godown maintained his lead with Grosso moving into second. Following another caution period, Godown, Grosso and Danny Bouc were running in the top three positions with six laps recorded. On the eighth circuit, Godown repelled a strong challenge by Grosso to keep his advantage. By lap ten and after one additional caution, Godown was still in front with Bouc slipping by Grosso for second. Two tours later and following a restart, Grosso returned to the runner-up spot with Mike Butler driving past Bouc as well to take third. Following two more appearances of the caution flag and with five laps left, the lead was in Godown’s control with Grosso, Butler, and David VanHorn in his tracks. Godown went unchallenged in the final tours to record his second win of the year. Grosso finished in the runner-up spot with third going to Butler. VanHorn came home in fourth. After his fourth lap visit to the pits to get a new tire, Pauch Jr. drove back through the field to take fifth. The Vahlco Wheels Modified heats were taken by Danny Bouc, Billy Pauch Jr. and PJ Oliver. Davey Sammons won the consolation contest.

In the 20-lap Hammer Sportsman feature, Will Dupree held off Bob Lineman Jr. on a final lap restart to record his third career victory. Jason Kosch paced his rivals for the opening two tours before Dupree hopped into the lead. With Lineman Jr. placing second, David Burns finished in third after starting the contest in ninth. Brad Roberts was fourth and twelfth place starting Steve Davis was fifth. Ryan Heim and Will Dupree were the victors in the heat races for the Hammer Sportsman.

The 30-lap Vahlco Wheels Modified feature began with polesitter Brian Papiez bolting to the front with JR Fulper and Matt Stangle in tow. The top three remained in order until a pair of cautions took place on the sixth tour. When green flag racing returned, Stangle grabbed the lead with Papiez in second and Fulper in third. Mike Butler, who started the event in fourteenth, was continuing his march forward as he moved into fourth place on the eighth revolution. After an eleventh lap yellow flag for a slowing John McClelland, the ensuing restart was red flagged as Kevin Vaclavicek’s car flipped on the frontstretch and collected other competitors. Once action resumed, Stangle was still on top with Papiez in second with twelve laps completed. Sixteenth place starting Danny Bouc inched closer to the front as he passed Butler for third on the thirteenth tour. The yellow lights illuminated for the final time with eight laps to go for Fulper. As the green flag waved, Stangle held off Papiez to maintain his lead as Butler took third place from Bouc and eighteenth place starting Ryan Godown motoring into fifth. On the very next circuit, Bouc regained third from Butler. With five laps remaining, Stangle had developed a half straight away advantage over Papiez. Stangle went unchallenged the rest of the way to pick up his second career Modified feature win. Papiez’s strong run netted him the runner-up position. With Bouc finishing third, Butler was fourth and Godown was fifth. Brian Papiez, Matt Stangle and TJ Lilly claimed the Vahlco Modified heat races.

After the original start of the 30-lap Vahlco Wheels Modified feature was marred by a caution, Cale Ross rocketed to the front on the ensuing green flag with Brian Papiez next in line. As the top two of Ross and Papiez were pulling away from the pack, Mike Butler was continuing his march to the front as the tenth place starter slipped into third place on lap five. Following the second and final yellow flag of the race on the eighth circuit, Ross was still on top with Butler nudging past Papiez for second with sixteenth place starting Billy Pauch Jr. jumping into fourth. One lap later, Papiez regained the runner-up spot. At the midway point of the race, Ross had a half-straightaway advantage over Papiez. Two circuits later, Pauch. Jr. was just in the process of driving by Butler for third when the second place running Papiez pulled into the infield and out of the contest. Now with Pauch Jr. in second and in hot pursuit, Ross was beginning to encounter the tail end of the field with eleven laps remaining. By the twenty-second tour, Ross’s margin over Pauch Jr. had evaporated to a mere two car lengths in heavier lap traffic. Over the next few tours, Ross had Pauch Jr. on his bumper. After a brief side-by-side duel, Pauch Jr. scooted past Ross with only five revolutions left in the race. Over the final laps, Pauch Jr. increased his lead and went unchallenged to grab the checkered flag for his twenty-second career Modified win. Ross held off Butler to take second. With Butler in third, Ryan Krachun finished in fourth after starting the race in eleventh. Brandon Grosso, who started the race in thirteenth, came home in fifth. The winners in the Vahlco Wheels Modified heat races were PJ Oliver and Brian Papiez.

NES

Polesitter Danny Bouc bolted to the front of the pack as the 40-lap Vahlco Modified feature got underway. On the second circuit, Billy Pauch Jr. moved past Brian Papiez to take over the runner-up spot. The top three of Bouc, Pauch Jr. and Papiez remained intact until the first yellow flag waved on lap four. When action resumed, Pauch Jr. swept past Bouc to grab the lead. Following a trio of caution periods, Pauch Jr. was still in front with thirteenth place starting Ryan Godown in second, Bouc in third, and John McClelland in fourth with seven revolutions completed. During this stretch of green flag racing, Pauch Jr. built up a five car length advantage over Godown with fifteen laps registered.

Over the next few laps and with the top two in traffic, Godown quickly closed in on Pauch Jr. By lap twenty-five, Pauch Jr. and Godown were in a side-by-side tussle for the top spot.  On the next circuit, Godown wrestled first place away from Pauch Jr. Now heading his rivals and with ten laps remaining, Godown was knifing his way past slower competitors as Pauch Jr. was fighting back to regain the lead. On lap thirty-three, Godown and Pauch Jr. were door-to-door again with Godown using the outer groove.

Two tours later, Godown managed to retain his lead following a tangle with a slower running competitor in traffic. As the two-to-go sign was given, Godown still had Pauch Jr. in his tracks. On the final turn of the last lap, Godown fended off another determined challenge by Pauch Jr. to narrowly win his forty-seventh Modified feature. With Pauch Jr. taking second, Bouc’s strong run resulted in third place. McClelland was fourth. Eleventh place starter Brandon Grosso rounded out the top five. Pauch Jr., Bouc and Mike Butler were victorious in the Vahlco Modified heat races.
