A PAUCH JR. SWEEP: BILLY PAUCH JR. TOPS MODIFIED MAIN, ONE-ON-ONE MATCH RACES FOR $3,000 NIGHT

NEW EGYPT, NJ – A Pauch Jr. Sweep.

Billy Pauch Jr. was the top dog in Modified competition on Saturday night, claiming the 30-lap Modified feature event and the One-on-One Match Races presented by Oliver Communications Group.

The Frenchtown, N.J. native raced his way from the 12th starting position – in a feature that had one caution flag – to pick up his second New Egypt Speedway win of the season.

“We struggled a little bit the last time we were here (on July 12),” Pauch Jr. explained. “Our car was spot on tonight though; I could roll the middle really well.”

Pauch Jr. appeared to be on his way to a runner-up finish before a yellow on lap 23 erased a straightaway lead that Paul Mancini had.

“Paul’s a really good kid,” Pauch Jr. stated. “He and his dad try really hard at it, and I wasn’t going to get him if that yellow didn’t come out.”

Mancini, of New Gretna, N.J., fired from the third starting position. He quickly worked his way to second at the drop of the green flag before taking the lead from Will Dupree on lap four.

From there, Mancini set sail, working his way into lap traffic as the first 23 laps of the race clicked off caution free.

While Mancini paced the field out front, The Kid’s Kid’ was working his way from the 12th starting position and clicking cars off one-by-one.

Pauch Jr. raced into the top five on lap six before the battle really began. It took Pauch’s No. 1 machine another six laps to race around Dominick Buffalino for the fourth spot.

Three laps later, he worked around Cole Stangle for the third position. Will Dupree was next on Pauch’s checklist, racing around him at the completion of lap 21.

By the time Pauch Jr. got to second however, Mancini’s lead was over a straightaway.

The races only caution flag came when George Gareis spun in turns three and four, right in front of Mancini. The driver of the 7M missed the wreck but had Pauch Jr. alongside on the restart.

Pauch Jr. seized the opportunity, racing around Mancini on the restart and setting sail for the win.

Mancini held on for second, while Pipersville, Pa.’s Danny Bouc rounded out the podium finishers. Ringoes, N.J.’s Ryan Godown came home in fourth and Neshanic Station, N.J.’s Cole Stangle completed the top five.

Finishing sixth through tenth, respectively, were Schnecksville, Pa.’s Tanner Van Doren; Sayreville, N.J.’s Dominick Buffalino; Somerset, N.J.’s Will Dupree; Hamilton, N.J.’s Johnny Bangs; and Otisville, N.Y.’s Corey Cormier.

In the Oliver Communications Group Modified Match Race competition, Cole Stangle led things off after being the fastest car not in the top 10 in points in heat race competition.

By luck of the draw, Stangle lined up against Davey Sammons, who would be the star of the show early.

Sammons won the first four Match Races against Stangle, D.J. Hunt, Tanner Van Doren, and Jim Housworth.

Sammons’ run would end in round five against Ryan Godown, who then proceeded to also beat Kevin Borden.

Godown could do no more, however, as Danny Bouc outgunned him in round seven before beating Paul Mancini in round eight.

In the penultimate match, Johnny Bangs pulled the upset, topping Bouc, setting up a battle between himself and Billy Pauch Jr.

After the first try, when the two made contact and both got flat tires, Pauch Jr. outdueled Bangs to pick up the $500 victory.

“I didn’t even realize I was the last car until I pulled out of the infield,” Pauch Jr. said with a laugh. “Thanks to Phil Oliver and the whole family for doing this, they’re one of the diehards of our sport.”

The Swagger Factory Apparel Crate Sportsman feature event got off to a tumultuous start, with two multi-car pile ups, both resulting in red flags for a blocked racetrack.

After the opening lap mishaps, the final 23 laps clicked off caution free, with Cream Ridge, N.J.’s Steve Davis sailing to a dominant win on his birthday.

Davis, who was scheduled to start 12th, completed the first lap in the fourth position after the opening lap carnage.

Davis and Ryan Simmons duked it out on laps three through five for the top spot, before Davis emerged and set sail for the win.

Simmons settled for second, with David Miloszar, Nick Van Wickle, and Mike Butler, who narrowly escaped both cautions with minimal damage, completing the top five.

Southampton, N.J.’s Bob Drayton picked up the Four Cylinder victory, racing to the lead on lap five and leading the final 10 laps to pick up the win.

Justin Dunn, Joe Garey Jr., Dominick Antonelli, and Joe Garey Sr. completed the top five.

Eric Degler was disqualified for failure to go to post race tech inspection.
