ON FIRE: GODOWNS WINS THIRD MODIFIED MAIN IN A ROW; SECURES GUARANTEED STARTING SPOT TO ALL-STAR CUP SHOOTOUT
NEW EGYPT, NJ – On Fire.
For the third consecutive race, Ryan Godown claimed the Modified main event at New Egypt Speedway, this one worth $3,131 courtesy of Elite Welder Training & Testing.
The 31-lap main event fired off with only one yellow flag slowing the proceedings, which came shortly after Godown wrestled the lead away from Montgomery, N.J.’s Brandon Grosso.
“Anywhere we go right now the package we have is working,” Godown proclaimed. “Handling wise, the car is just really good and really fun to drive.”
Godown started on the outside of the front row, next to Grosso, following the ‘Musical Chairs Redraw,’ which awarded Grosso $369 courtesy of Elite Welder Training & Testing as well.
Grosso led the opening 17 laps of the affair, before Godown slipped by just as the pair were catching the tail of the field.
“I don’t know if his stuff started to go away or what,” Godown explained. “He just started to hang and hang a little bit more and I was able to get by him.”
Godown used the inside groove to slide by Grosso in turns three and four, before setting sail with the top spot.
The only caution flag fell on lap 22 for a slowing Chris Grbac in turns three and four. Grosso was unable to offer a challenge to Godown, and the Ringoes, N.J. native sailed off into the sunset with his sixth win of the season.
The win gives Godown a guaranteed starting spot in the upcoming ‘All-Star Cup Shootout,’ a 50-lap, $6,000-plus to win feature event coming up on Fri.-Sat., Sept. 26-27.
Grosso held on to the runner-up spot, holding off Pipersville, Pa.’s Danny Bouc, who finished third. New Gretna, N.J.’s Paul Mancini claimed the fourth spot and East Greenbush, N.Y.’s David Schilling completed the top five aboard the Rio Brothers No. R10.
Finishing sixth through tenth, respectively, were Montgomery, N.J.’s Justin Grosso; Wrightstown, N.J.’s Davey Sammons; Hopewell, N.J.’s D.J. Hunt; Phillipsburg, N.J.’s Jack Butler; and Milford, N.J.’s Clay Butler completed the top ten.
The Mid-Atlantic Sprint Series (MASS) 305 Sprint Cars were on the docket for the annual ‘Fred Bitner Memorial’ with $1,000 going to the winner.
For the third consecutive year, it was Tuckahoe, N.J.’s Buddy Schweibinz who claimed the win in the 25-lap affair.
Schweibinz started the main event from the eighth starting position, raced to the lead, and then lapped all the way up to the sixth-place car en route to a dominant victory.
The win for Schweibinz was his second of the season at New Egypt Speedway, with the first coming in the first MASS event at the D-shaped clay oval.
Tim Tanner Jr., Eddie Wagner, Dave Brown, and Rick Lafferty completed the top five.
In Swagger Factory Apparel Crate Sportsman competition, it was Bedminster, N.J.’s Mike Butler claiming his first win of the season after finishing second on five occasions in 2025.
Butler started in third but took the top spot on lap four. From there, Butler was forced to fight off Nick Van Wickle at the mid-point of the race and Matt Ellery in the later stages to claim his first win of the year.
The win was a big one for Butler, claiming the guaranteed starting spot in the All-Star Cup Shootout for the Swagger Factory Apparel Crate Sportsman, which will be 30-laps in distance paying $1,500 to the winner.
Ellery, Van Wickle, Ryan Heim, and George Gareis Jr. completed the top five.
Howell, N.J.’s Chris Lane picked up his third win of the season with the Xtreme Diesel Performance (XDP) LLC., Street Stocks leading all 15 laps on his way to the win.
Lane paced the field while Tuckerton, N.J.’s Pat Force gave chase, but Force never got close enough to offer a serious challenge to the leader.
Lane’s triumph locks him into the redraw for the XDP Street Stock feature event on Friday night of the All-Star Cup weekend.
Force, Darren Cox, Spider Ensinger, and Chris Allen Sr. completed the top five.
In Four Cylinder competition, Kyle Hurley outdueled Joe Garey Jr. in a great battle to pick up the victory.
Hurley, the 2024 champion, claimed his second win of the season and a guaranteed redraw spot in the Saturday main event of the All-Star Cup.
Garey Jr., Bobby Drayton IV, Penny Dunn, and Dale Mull round out the top five.
