FORMER TRACK CHAMPION CALLING NES HOME IN ‘22 

Wind Gap, Pa’s Frank Cozze will be calling the New Egypt Speedway his home in 2022. The Dave Renaldo owned team evaluated their options for the upcoming season and finally decided to be a regular at the Route 539 oval. According to speedway manager Joey Liquori, “we are pleased to welcome this team back to New Egypt as they add a level of competition which will add greatly to the diverse modified field we have in place for this season.” 

Coming off a thrilling last lap victory in the season ending Legends of the Fall event might have sealed the deal as the crowd in attendance rewarded the popular 2005 track champion with thunderous applause. 

The team will be campaigning a Bicknell chassis with a Martino powerplant. Sponsorship will come from Harry’s U-Pull-It Auto Parts, MSG Associates, Renaldo’s Mechanical, Bert Transmissions, Brian’s Small Engine Repair, and Jennifer’s Consignment Boutique. 

Currently sitting in fifth place on the NES all time modified feature winners list with twenty-eight, the crafty veteran will give the young guns in town all the competition they can handle. Among those young guns will be modified rookies Justin Grosso, Ryan Heim, Paul Mancini, Anthony Tramontana, plus Brandon Grosso, David Burns, Dakota Kessler, and Jack Butler just to name a few. 

March 26th will be the only practice session which is open to all competitors and will begin at 12PM. All NJ safety rules will be in effect, and this session is free to the public. 

Then on Saturday night, April 2nd, the silver anniversary season will officially begin. Headlining the program will be the Cabin Fever 40 for the Vahlco modifieds. Also on the schedule will be the Hamilton Auto Clinic/Racersguide.com Crates, Larry’s Hot Rods and Harleys NEWS Sprints, 4- Cylinders, and the Rookies. 

The ten race High Gear Towing Crate Select Series is gaining great momentum as a few more drivers have expressed an interest in the event. Again, it’s a ten-race series with the winner receiving $2,000 at 

the end of the Series in October. This in no way affects the season long points race or Saturday night’s regular purse. One correction to the schedule is the race in July is the 16th and not the 26th.

 NEW NES CRATE SERIES HAS CHAMPION EARNING $2000 

The New Egypt Speedway is proud to present the first High Gear Towing Crate Select Series. A ten race series for the Crate division which will see the winner walking away with $2,000. 

High Gear Towing is located in Bordentown Township and offers a full spectrum of towing and recovery as well as complete automotive repair services. Being in the business for over 15 years, High Gear Towing is anxious to join the NES team in this new and exciting series. 

During the ten race schedule, a driver will pay $30 to enter each event. Separate points will be awarded to those entered. The point system used will be the same as the one which determines the season long track champion, sixty points for first, fifty six for second, etc. This series will in no way affect the 2022 points race for the Crates. All New Egypt Speedway rules will be adhered to. 

While the winner is walking away with $2,000, the top five finishers will receive significant paychecks. Second will be awarded $1250, third $1000, fourth $750, and fifth $500. Those finishing in positions six thru ten will receive contingency awards. You must enter at least eight of the ten events to be eligible for an award. 

The dates are, May 14 and 28, June 11 and 25, July 26, August 6 and 20, September 3 and 17, and October 1. The October race will carry with it double points. If one of the events is rained out, an alternate date will be announced. 

A strong field is expected to compete in the first ever High Gear Towing series and among them will be, Johnny Bangs, George Gareis, Tom Princiotta, Ryan Simmons, Nick Van Wickle, Matt Knaub, Zachary Merola, and Dan Fleming, just to name a few. 

The annual open house practice session is scheduled for Saturday, March 26th. All divisions are welcomed to shake down their machines for the up coming 2022 season, which will begin on Saturday, April 2nd.

SOPHOMORE BURNS READY FOR ‘22 AT NEW EGYPT SPEEDWAY

Coming off a very successful rookie season, Flemington’s David Burns has his sights set on that first modified win when the 2022 season rolls around at the New Egypt Speedway on April 2^nd.

The 21-year-old made the jump from the sportsman ranks early in 2021 and had several top ten runs before motor issues sidelined the team late in the season.

Once again driving for Resnick Racing, Burns will find himself in a ‘20 Bicknell powered by a Gary Bouc motor. Sponsorship for the team will come from Flemington Dept. Store, Braddock Chiropractic, and Active Disposal.

A four-time winner in the sportsman division, Burns will find himself competing against not only a host of new talent at the Route 539 oval but a strong field of seasoned veterans. The combination will no doubt make the upcoming modified season one of the most competitive in the speedway’s twenty-five-year history as a dirt facility.

Preping the speedway for the big silver anniversary season, track management is looking to not only give the historic speedway a different look but add several new fan friendly features. New clay was added to the 7/16 oval back in November giving it the necessary time needed to blend with the existing surface.

The Cabin Fever 40 for the Vahlco Wheels Modifieds will set the 2022 season in motion with the Racersguide.com Crates, Larry’s Hot Rods and Harley’s NEWS Sprints, 4-Cylinders, and Rookies on the schedule as well.

Jack Butler Calling NES His Saturday Night Home

Looking to follow in his father’s footsteps, Jack Butler of Phillipsburg, NJ will be making the New Egypt Speedway his Saturday night home in 2022. The twenty-two-year-old driver becomes yet another new young gun in town looking to aim at the tough competition.

            His dad, Gary Butler, had a brilliant career at the Route 539 oval as he captured ten modified wins and was the 2003 and 2006 sportsman champion.

            Having visited the speedway three times in 2021, the team liked what they saw. It was evident as they finished the season on a high note with a strong ninth-place finish in the Legends of the Fall 50.

            The car they will be campaigning in is a Bicknell chassis powered by a Leindecker Racing Engine. A host of sponsors will adorn the #5 and among them are Mancini Custom Homes, Brink Construction, Reid Sod Farm, Stasak Auctioneers, and Apgar Trucking.

            The Butler team, along with a host of others including the 2018 track champion David Van Horn, two-time track champion Rick Laubach, former crate champions, Jim Housworth, Brandon Grosso, and Mike Butler will be looking for the winners’ share of the purse in the season-opening Cabin Fever 40. Joining the Vahlco Wheels Modifieds will be the Racersguide.com Crate Modifieds, the Larry’s Hot Rods & Harleys NEWS, the 4-Cylinders, and the rookies.

            The first green flag of the 2022 stock car racing season is set to drop on Saturday, April 2^nd at 6PM. Pit gates will swing open at 3PM, while the grandstands will open to the fans at 4PM. A special open practice session is set for Saturday, March 26^th for all divisions. This session is free to the public.

            The AMA flat track motorcycles will make their first of two appearances on Saturday, March 19^th while the second is slated for October 15^th.

New Egypt’s Diverse Modified Field will be Wide Open in 2022

(January 31, 2022):  This year marks the 25th season for New Egypt Speedway on the clay, and one of the most diverse and competitive Modified fields in recent memory will greet fans each Saturday night. Over 30 race teams have already pre-entered to compete in this special anniversary season, ranging from former track champions and seasoned NES veterans to a group of young guns and a strong crop of Modified rookies.

Two-time champion Rick Laubach will return again this season in the Gary Hermann-owned #7, looking to garner his third track championship. Laubach, who won his 17th career feature in 2021, will be challenged by 2018 champ David Van Horn, who has 11 career wins of his own. Van Horn finished third in the final standing last year and is definitely a pre-season favorite in the Vahlco Wheels #323.  

Several second-generation hotshoes will be trying to etch their names into the record book this year, none more prominent than Brandon Grosso. The “Belle Mead Bullet” came up just 30 points shy of the championship last year and will be in the hunt once again in his family-owned #32. This season will mark the first that Brandon will compete directly against his younger brother Justin. Justin Grosso will lead a talented field of Modified rookies which will include former Rookie Sportsman champs Anthony Tramontana, Ryan Heim, and Paul Mancini. 

The depth of NES homegrown talent doesn’t end there, as they will join 2-time career Modified feature winner Cale Ross, and second-year star David Burns, to complete the list of 5 straight former Rookie Sportsman Champs now competing with the Modifieds. Ross, a winner in September, came home fifth in the final Modified point standings last year. 

Louden Reimert is another 2nd-Gen young gun who will look to improve on his rookie Modified performance in 2021. He came to New Egypt halfway thru the season and posted top-ten finishes in 8 of his 9 starts, and he is looking to build on this momentum in his first full season at the speedway. Newcomer Jack Butler is also another future star with a strong family pedigree that will call NES home this season. His dad, the Phillipsburg Phantom Gary Butler, will be turning the wrenches on his potent #5 as the season kicks off. 

The list doesn’t end here, as it is just beginning with challengers like Wade Hendrickson, Mike Butler, John McClelland, Dakota Kessler, Bryan Kuhl, Kevin Vaclavicek, JR Fulper, Jim Housworth, DJ Hunt, Kory Fleming, Jack Swain, Chris Grbac, Blaine Bracelin and more.

YOUNG GUNS READY TO MAKE AN ASSAULT ON NES MODS

For the first time in many seasons, the Vahlco Wheels Modifieds will welcome four rookie drivers when the 2022 season kicks off on Saturday, April 2^nd.

            Heading the foursome will be second generation driver Justin Grosso. The recently crowned Sportsman champ had a banner year capturing five wins in the Marty Resnick #13R. In addition, he recorded six wins in the family-owned Crate #J24.

            The Belle Mead resident will be teaming up with brother Brandon in a Bicknell chassied machine with sponsorship coming from Grosso Homes, Metal Fab, York Fence, and Dave Yaros Paving.

            Our 2018 rookie champion, Ryan Heim will be ready to meet the tough competition in a Teo chassied car sponsored by A Plus Insulation and Cramers Metal Recycling.

            A seven-time winner in the rookie division, the Parkertown resident captured a big sportsman win in 2019. The team ended their 2021 season early in preparation for the big move, but still managed a ninth-place finish in the final sportsman point standings.

            Anthony Tramontana Jr. notched four feature wins on route to capturing the 2019 rookie championship. A tough campaigner week in and week out, the Vineland driver was able to win his first crate feature last season on September 18^th.

            Finishing fourth in the 2021 crate point standings, the second-generation driver is anxiously awaiting the start of the season sitting behind the wheel of a 2022 Bicknell machine powered by a Morgantini built motor. Sponsorship will come from Mancini Custom Homes and J Mears Home Improvement.

            A co-champion in the 2020 rookie points race, Paul Mancini will be another young chauffer looking to make his mark when the green flag drops on opening night.

            Posting two big crate victories in 2021, the talented New Gretna driver will be driving a 2022 Bicknell powered by a potent Morrrison motor. Mancini Custom Homes will serve as the primary sponsor with additional sponsorship coming from 84 Lumber and Better Housekeeping.

            The track surface is readily being prepared for the start of the season and the four rookies along with a host of others will be looking for a spot in the modified Cabin Fever 40. The nights action will begin promptly at 6PM with warmups scheduled for 5PM. Joining the modifieds will be the Crates, NEWS, 4-Cylinders, and the Crate Rookies.

NEW EGYPT’S 25^TH ANNIVERSARY SEASON A DIVERSIFIED ONE

            The twenty-fifth anniversary season at the New Egypt Speedway will be one of its most diversified in over ten years. Regular divisions at the Route 539 oval this season will be the Vahlco Wheels Modifieds, the Racersguide.com Crates, Larry’s Hot Rods & Harleys Northeast Wingless Sprint Cars, the Street Stocks, and the 4-Cylinders.

            A strong rookie class is rapidly shaping up and once again will be sponsored by Lyons Construction and Metal Fab. The thirteen-week schedule will begin on April 2^nd and end on June 25^th with a twelve-lap main event.

            The popular MASS 305 group will be on hand for five shows this year. The first is set to go on April 23^rd followed by shows on May 21^st, June 18^th, July 6^th, and September 17^th.

            Set to make their return after a two-year absence will be the URC Sprint Cars. The winged group is always a crowd pleaser, and they are set to run on June 18^th and August 13^th.

            The USAC East group will be making a record three stops at the tricky 7/16-mile speedway. Their first event on the 2022 campaign is scheduled for May 28^th with July 30^th and October 22^nd rounding out the trio of shows.

            Making their first appearance since 2014 are the ARDC midgets. The group has presented some exciting features of the years with the last one being won by Steve Buckwalter on June 5, 2014. They are scheduled to compete on April 30^th, June 18^th, and August 27^th.

            The Eastern 600 sprints will return for two special shows. Coming off a trial run last year, the group will be part of our Garden State Gunfight on June 14^th, and the Legends of the Fall event on October 22^nd.

            The season will open on March 19^th with a big AMA show, followed by an open practice on March 26^th for all divisions. The Cabin Fever 40 will mark the start of the 25^th season on dirt as the modifieds will compete in a forty-lap main event. Joining them will be the crates, NEWS, 4-Cylinders, and the Rookies.

We also welcome everyone to stay for our fireworks display following the races! Pit gates will open at 4PM, grandstand gates at 5PM, hot laps beginning at 6PM, and racing at 7PM. Grandstand Admission: Adults (16+)-$25, Seniors (65+)-$18, Teens (12-15)-$11, kids 11 & under are FREE!

*As per Executive Order 157- New Egypt Speedway requires that all patrons must remain six feet of spacing in all commonly used and other applicable areas or where people may form a line* 

Due to the predicted weather forecast, our second open practice session has been canceled.  

New Egypt Speedway will be hosting a second open practice session SATURDAY, JUNE 27th. Pit gates will open at 1:00pm with racing beginning at 3:00 pm. Practice will be open to all interested teams with pit fees being $30.
Due to social distancing guidelines and the Governor's executive order, **THIS WILL BE A NO FANS EVENT!!** The speedway will only be permitted to sell pit passes for drivers and crew members in order to enter the facility.
