WELCOME BACK: DAVEY SAMMONS OUTGUNS PAUCH JR.; CLAIMS FIRST NEW EGYPT VICTORY SINCE 2019

NEW EGYPT, NJ – Welcome Back.

Davey Sammons returned to New Egypt Speedway Victory Lane for the first time since 2019, coming from the 10th starting position to claim the victory.

A late race restart put Billy Pauch Jr. alongside Sammons late in the race, but the Trenton, N.J. driver stared down the challenge to pick up the emotional victory.

“I knew he was going to try and get me on those restarts,” Sammons explained. “I also knew my car was good enough though I was going to make it tough for him.”

This is one of the best racecars I’ve ever driven,” he proclaimed.

With Sammons rolling from 10th, it was Hopewell, N.J.’s D.J. Hunt leading from the drop of the green flag, rolling the outside groove to maintain the advantage.

Sammons wasted no time showing his strength, taking the fourth spot away on lap five, just before the race’s first caution flag.

The ensuing restart gave the driver of his family-owned No. 79 an opportunity he would seize. Sammons raced around Will Dupree for third and then dove underneath Anthony Tramontana, emerging with the runner-up spot coming off turn two.

From there, Sammons and Hunt spent laps six through 16 battling side-by-side for the top spot.

Sammons continued pressuring Hunt on the bottom side, before breaking through and leading the 16th circuit.

Sammons led the rest of the way to pick up the victory, despite the late race restarts with Billy Pauch Jr. and Danny Bouc rounding out the top three after Hunt and Tramontana got tangled up on a restart.

Pauch Jr., of Frenchtown, N.J., settled for the runner-up spot, moving him into second place in the Modified standings. The point leader – Danny Bouc – completed the top three in his Craig and Leslie Pondish owned No. 6.

Phillipsburg, N.J.’s Jack Butler charged from the 18th starting position to claim fourth and Ringoes, N.J.’s Ryan Godown used a late race surge to complete the top five.

Finishing sixth through tenth, respectively, were Jackson, N.J.’s Kevin Borden; Hamilton, N.J.’s Johnny Bangs; Lawrenceville, N.J.’s Wade Hendrickson; East Greenbush, N.Y.’s David Schilling; and South Brunswick Township, N.J.’s Chris Grbac.

In Mid-Atlantic Sprint Series (MASS) action, Warminster, Pa.’s D.J. Tanner Jr. went wire-to-wire for his first career Sprint Car win at New Egypt.

Tanner, who grew up in the stands at New Egypt, held off Tuckahoe, N.J.’s Buddy Schweibinz – who won the last MASS race at New Egypt – to earn the crowd-pleasing victory.

Schweibinz settled for the runner-up spot and Pipersville, Pa.’s Brian Carber completed the podium. Jared Kreider and Eddie Wagner rounded out the top five.

Parkertown, N.J.’s Ryan Heim became the first two-time winner for the Swagger Factory Apparel Crate Sportsman division, racing by Mike Butler in the last five laps to pick up the win.

Heim and Butler traded the lead back and forth on three separate occasions in the final 10 laps before Heim ultimately emerged with the top spot to grab the win.

Butler, of Bedminster, N.J., came home second and Pilesgrove Township, N.J.’s Ethan Bill completed the top five. Nick Van Wickle and Pat Wall were the rest of the top five.

Hunter Ploski and Aiden Spencer were the Fastline Performance Rookie winners.

The Xtreme Diesel Performance, LLC. (XDP) feature was won by Tuckerton, N.J.’s Patrick Force.

Force and Wall, N.J.’s Rob Ormsbee battled for the top spot from lap seven to the checkered, with Ormsbee working the top and Force rolling the bottom.

Ultimately, it was Force holding off Ormsbee and taking the victory. Scott Freed, Chris Allen, and Gary Klimeczak rounded out the top five.
