ONE FOR BILLY: CHRIS LANE WALKS AWAY WITH $1,310 PAYDAY IN BILL LIEDTKA MEMORIAL; DAVIS STEALS CRATE SPORTSMAN WIN
NEW EGYPT, NJ – One for Billy.
A dramatic ending – in more ways than one – resulted in a $1,310 win going to Chris Lane in the Xtreme Diesel Performance, LLC. (XDP) ‘Bill Liedtka Memorial’ on Saturday night.
After an early spin, Lane raced his all the way back to the runner-up spot, but fell short of crossing the finish line first, as Milford, N.J.’s Kory Fleming held off the hard charging lane on a late restart to beat him to the line.
Unfortunately for Fleming, the win was short lived. After multiple trips across the scales for post-race inspection, Fleming was deemed light and was disqualified from the event.
Following the disqualification, Lane was awarded the win and the big payday to go with it in honor of his friend Billy Liedtka.
“Coming through the field I knew our car was hooked up,” Lane explained. “I just kept telling myself don’t give up.”
When we caught Kory after that yellow, I didn’t want to spin him,” he continued. “I didn’t want to win like that. I don’t like winning like this either, but I’ll take it.”
The was the biggest of Lane’s XDP Street Stock career.
“Winning Bill’s race is bigger than any win I’ve ever had,” he exclaimed. “I miss racing with Bill, he was a great competitor… to get this win, it means a lot to me.”
Tuckerton, N.J.’s Pat Force finished in the runner-up spot and claimed the Hard Charger Award advancing from the seventh starting position.
“I just got hung up behind Chris Allen for too long, I needed to make a move sooner,” Force proclaimed. “I’m glad we could put on a good race for the Liedtka family, and we’ll try again next week.
Howell, N.J.’s Darren Cox completed the podium finishers.
“This track is awesome tonight, we couldn’t ask for any better,” Cox stated. “I wish we could’ve won, but I’ll take third.”
Chatsworth, N.J.’s Gary Klimeczak came home in the fourth position and Jackson, N.J.’s Scott Freed completed the top five.
In Swagger Factory Apparel Crate Sportsman competition, Cream Ridge, N.J.’s Steve Davis made a late race pass of Lexi Wilson to pick up the win.
Wilson, who started outside the front row, took the lead at the drop of the green flag and paced the field for the opening 21 circuits, while Davis was picking his way forward from 11th.
Davis slipped by Glenn McIntyre at the completion of lap 20 to move into the runner-up spot and set his sights on Wilson.
Davis got to the Southampton, N.J. driver’s back bumper going into turn three, and Wilson made her first mistake of the race.
Wilson drifted wide off the fourth turn, allowing Davis to slip by and lead the remaining four laps to pick up the victory.
Wilson held on for second and Bedminster, N.J.’s Mike Butler charged from 13th to round out the podium. McIntyre and Mike Toth completed the top five.
Taunton, Mass. native Mick D’Agostino continued his reign in the Northeast Wingless Sprints (NEWS) kingpin at New Egypt Speedway.
D’Agostino started third and led the final 19 laps of the 20-lap affair to pick up his third win of the season and expand his point lead.
Wrightstown, N.J.’s Rich Mellor, charged from fifth for the runner-up spot and West Creek, N.J.’s Ron Pavia completed the podium.
Yardville, N.J.’s Justin Dunn claimed the Four Cylinder victory, racing from the fourth starting spot and holding off Trenton, N.J.’s Joe Garey to pick up the victory.
Garey came from the seventh starting spot to finish second and Jackson, N.J.’s Dominick Antonelli completed the podium.
The Fastline Performance Rookie Features went to Hunter Ploski, who won the first, and Aiden Spencer, who claimed the second to round out the night.
Racing continues this coming Saturday, July, with Christmas in July with gift raffles and prizes up for grabs all night long.
